Patient Comfort: IV Sedation Dentistry & Other Methods
Sedation Dentistry can help relieve fear and anxiety of visiting the dentist. Whether it was a previous experience or just fear of the unknown, people refuse to seek treatment even after they experience the warning signs. At Modern Periodontics, Dr. Kuznia and Dr. Storch understand these concerns and it is part of our mission to provide a comfortable environment for our patients. We offer several options to make your visit pleasant and smooth.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral Sedation Dentistry allows us to relieve anxiety without the use of needles or intravenous tubes. Dr. Kuznia and Dr. Storch can prescribe an oral medication (a pill) which is taken before the appointment. This safely reduces anxiety and provides a light sedation for most patients. When using this method, the effects, even as light as they are, can last long after the procedure is completed. Each patient must have an escort to transport them to and from their appointment. Normal diet and medication regimens can be followed.
Conscious Sedation Dentistry - Intravenous (IV)
IV Sedation Dentistry in Jacksonville, Fl
For management of moderate to severe dental anxiety, many patients elect IV Sedation. This involves establishing an IV in your arm or hand, administrating medications directly into the bloodstream that make you very sleepy and forgetful. Through the IV, Dr. Kuznia and Dr. Storch can adjust the level of sedation throughout the procedure.
Your comfort is one of our top priorities. We not only specialize in periodontal work to ensure healthy teeth and gums, but we go out of our way to make sure you are comfortable. By providing comprehensive IV sedation dentistry in Jacksonville, FL, our team takes patient comfort to new levels. Through dental sedation, we are able to minimize any anxiety or pain our patients feel.
Not only are Dr. Kuznia and Dr. Storch Diplomates of the prestigious American Board of Periodontology, they have extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of periodontal disease. Through dental sedation, they are able to offer the best care for their patients while ensuring they are as comfortable as possible during any procedure.
Do You Need IV Sedation Dentistry?
As experienced sedation dentists, we carefully monitor everything during your visit as well as adjust the level of sedation when needed.
Typically, IV sedation is used for oral surgery, such as wisdom teeth removal, root canals, dental implants, and extensive periodontal work. It involves administering the medication intravenously (through the veins). Due to the method of sedation, it gives us easy control of the level of sedation to ensure you stay comfortable. IV sedation is a form of conscious sedation. Even though you will not be completely unconscious, you may feel so relaxed that you fall asleep during your treatment. For this procedure, the patient will need an escort before and after the procedure. Also, the patient cannot eat or drink for 8 hours prior to the procedure and medication regimens may be altered.
