Modern Periodontics is, Florida's premier periodontic office, and we are proud to offer an unparalleled experience in dental care.
With Modern Periodontics’ Dental Sterilization Policy, our patients can be sure that when they come into our office they are receiving top-of-the-line care in a clean and safe environment. Rest assured that we follow all of the guidelines set forth by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the Occupational Saftey and Health Administration (OSHA) to protect our patients and staff and provide infection control in dental practice.
The ADA recommends that all dental practices, dental auxiliaries, and dental laboratories employ proper infection control procedures per the 2003 and 2016 CDC guidelines. We studied these guidelines closely to develop a dental sterilization process and policies. Some of the measures we take include:
- Good hand hygiene : We use disinfectant soap to wash our hands before and after each patient, before we put sterile gloves on, after we remove them, and of course, any time our hands are soiled. Good handwashing practice is key to infection control in dentistry.
- Use of gloves and face masks : Personal protection equipment, or PPE, is a key factor in infection control in dental practice. At Modern Periodontics, we use sterile, disposable gloves and facemasks and use a fresh set for each individual patient. When necessary, we also use disposable gowns and sanitized face shields.
- Chemical disinfection of surfaces : We are extremely diligent when it comes to sterilization in our dental clinic. We use EPA-certified chemical disinfectants to wipe down all surfaces in our clinic, even our front office! In our treatment rooms, we disinfect after each patient, wiping down the treatment chair, our computers, light fixtures and switches, and all countertops.
- Sterilization of dental instruments : There are many types of sterilization in dentistry, and the staff at Modern Periodontics, is trained in the safe administration of all of them per OSHA guidelines. We meticulously clean all of our tools with water and detergent before placing them in our state-of-the-art dental autoclave sterilizer or cold sterilization dental solution. If a tool cannot be properly sterilized per the CDC guidelines, it is disposed of after use.
